This week's Official UK Albums Chart

Still no contest at the top of the UK singles chart as Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe holds firm for another week, in the process causing a veritable logjam of hits behind her as the quality releases pile up in the Top 10, clearing away the deadwood which have slowed the charts down of late.

Occupying the silver medal position this week is Can't Say No, the debut single from Brighton singer Conor Maynard. The 19 year old has had a Bieber-esque rise to fame, cutting his teeth as a YouTube singer before entering and winning the MTV talent search "New For 2012" at the tail end of last year with a high percentage of the public vote. A recording deal with Parlophone records swiftly followed and this hit single is the result, the track propelled to the Top 3 in an instant thanks naturally by the strong online following he has developed over the past few years.

As predicted here last week, Fun's massive American hit We Are Young is proving to be a steady seller here in the UK and the global smash rises to Number 3 this week. It has Number One success written all over it, but with so much competition around it is more a matter of waiting to see when it finally has the legs to climb to the top of the charts.

As we also flagged up last time around, John Legend's 2005 hit single Ordinary People becomes one of the most surprising Top 10 singles of the year, leaping to Number 4 on the back of a double performance of the song on The Voice UK a fortnight ago. In a sense the song represents a blatant bit of sucking up given it was co-written and produced by Voice judge will.i.am, but let's face it nobody ever went wrong trying to appeal to the people with the final say. Ordinary People now reclaims its crown as John Legend's biggest ever hit single, a title it surrendered to Wake Up in 2010 when that single reached Number 26.

Speaking of The Voice UK judges, Jessie J is making the most of her profile on the show by charting yet another Top 10 hit as Laserlight soars 26-5 to become her sixth single to reach the top end of the chart. Co-written and featuring an artist credit for David Guetta, like its predecessor Domino this single is one of the three new tracks to feature on the special edition of her debut album Who You Are.

Completing the lineup of new songs in the Top 10 is So Good from B.o.B, the second release from his second album Strange Clouds and which returns him to Top 10 status for the first time in nearly two years. The album's first release was its title track which despite becoming a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 was little promoted and almost ignored here, eventually limping to a rather disappointing Number 72 in October last year. So Good is now his biggest hit single as lead artist since Airplanes topped the chart in July 2010, although his most recent chart-topping success was as guest star on Jessie J's "Price Tag" in February last year. Indeed his singles chart at such extremes that for now So Good is for the moment his first Top 10 hit not to have topped the charts.

Also making something of a return to form is Marina and the Diamonds whose last single Radioactive crept to a mere Number 25 at the tail end of last year. Follow-up Primadonna makes a much better fist of it, storming to Number 11 on its first week upon release and in the process becoming her biggest hit single to date, eclipsing the Number 12 peak of Hollywood in early 2010. Hailed as one of the brightest talents of that year, the girl from the valleys struggled to gain quite the commercial toehold that was predicted for her, so there are high hopes that her forthcoming second album Electra Heart (from which both this single and Primadonna are taken) will push her to proper mainstream fame.

New to the Top 20 as well are Train with brand new hit Drive By which lands at Number 14 as the first hit from their new album California 37, in the process becoming their second biggest hit ever. The parent album was also released this week and charts at Number 10, their third Top 10 album to date. In a strange twist, this new hit is competing almost head to head with one of their oldest, 2001 Number 10 hit Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) currently languishing at Number 34 after making a chart comeback following - what else - a performance by an auditionee on The Voice UK a few weeks ago.

Speaking of the album chart, the biggest new release of the week was Jason Mraz' latest album Love Is A Four Letter Word which winds up at Number 2, losing out to 21 by the small matter of 44 copies in what is the closest chart race since April 1998 when Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams edged Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love by just four sales.
