It is the most wonderful time of the year (apparently).
For a bit of seasonal fun, and to distract from the mind-numbing tedium of the annual invasion singles chart of the same old Christmas songs, it seems to be an interesting exercise to track just how rapidly that festive domination is. And just how extensively it has grown since the start of the decade. The table shows the number of Christmas (or Christmas-themed) songs that occupy places on the Top 100 each week as we approach the end of the year. The peak is always Week 52 - the final singles chart of the year and which covers December 25th itself - the height of Christmas song listening.
Note, these counts are entirely subjective based on what I am choosing to interpret as a "Christmas song". Feel free to suggest recounts or to disagree with my addition. And check back week by week as this year's seasonal swamping gets underway.
